Council Decision (CFSP) 2023/2705 of 30 November 2023 amending Decision (CFSP) 2019/1296 in support of strengthening biological safety and security in Ukraine in line with the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 28(1) and Article 31(1) thereof, Having regard to the proposal from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Whereas: (1) On 31 July 2019, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2019/1296 Council Decision (CFSP) 2019/1296 of 31 July 2019 in support of strengthening biological safety and security in Ukraine in line with the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery (OJ L 204, 2.8.2019, p. 29). , which provided for a 36-month implementation period for the projects referred to in Article 1(2) of that Decision (the implementation period), ending on 14 December 2022. (2) On 8 November 2022, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2022/2184 Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/2184 of 8 November 2022 amending Decision (CFSP) 2019/1296 in support of strengthening biological safety and security in Ukraine in line with the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery (OJ L 288, 9.11.2022, p. 78). , which extended the implementation period until 14 January 2024 with no implication as regards financial resources. (3) On 16 August 2023, the Secretariat of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which is responsible for the technical implementation of the projects referred to in Article 1(2) of Decision (CFSP) 2019/1296, requested a further extension of the implementation period until 14 July 2024. (4) The extension of the implementation period until 14 July 2024 does not have any implication as regards financial resources. (5) Decision (CFSP) 2019/1296 should therefore be amended accordingly, HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1

In Article 5 of Decision (CFSP) 2019/1296, paragraph 2 is replaced by the following: 2. This Decision shall expire on 14 July 2024..

Article 2
