Check the legal sources behind an AI answer

A legal citation is a starting point for verification. Use TheLawyer to retrieve the original passage, then check whether the source actually supports the answer, applies to the relevant date and addresses the facts of your question.

Match each claim to the original wording

Ask the assistant to map each important claim to a particular passage. Read enough surrounding text to find definitions, exceptions and cross-references. A source title or URL alone is not evidence for a broad conclusion. If the cited passage only partly supports the claim, ask the assistant to narrow its wording.

Check the source's date and scope

Identify the jurisdiction, publication context and version used in the answer. Distinguish the source's publication date from the date it applies to the situation. Where the index does not contain the required version, consult the original publisher, such as Retsinformation or EUR-Lex, and record the remaining coverage gap.

Record what changed and why

A useful correction preserves the earlier claim, the revised statement and the supporting evidence. Attribute feedback from a lawyer or another reviewer accurately and state whether it has been verified. With write access, the research skill can append that change instead of silently replacing the earlier research history.

A question to start with

Audit your previous answer claim by claim. Retrieve the supporting original passages, check jurisdiction and date, and identify overstatements. For each correction, preserve the previous wording, the replacement and the source that justifies it.

From question to checked sources

  1. 1

    Define the issue

State the jurisdiction, relevant date and facts. Ask the assistant to identify missing information before drawing a conclusion.

  2. 2

    Ask for the original text

Have the assistant search the indexed corpus, retrieve relevant passages and return source links. A missing result is a coverage gap to investigate.

  3. 3

    Review and keep the trail

Open the original sources, check their dates and compare the wording with the answer. With write consent, the research skill can save the question, answer and later corrections.

Questions about this workflow

Does a working source link prove the answer is right?

No. A working link shows where material can be inspected. You must still check whether the text supports the specific proposition, applies to the relevant time and jurisdiction, and has been interpreted correctly for the facts.

Does TheLawyer cover every legal source?

No. Research is limited to the sources and versions in the indexed corpus. Ask your assistant to identify missing coverage and distinguish retrieved text from its own interpretation. Source links do not guarantee that an answer is correct.

What gets saved in my research history?

With write access and the research skill, questions, answers, citations and attributed corrections can be saved privately to your account. The host must actually send that content. A failed save should be reported. Your AI provider also has its own data policies.
